Quality Unit 2003

2003 Fall Family Camping Trip

On a chilly Friday night in November we all headed up to Camp Rainey Mountain in Clayton, Georgia. To our surprise, the mountain didn't live up to it's name until early Sunday morning. Fortunately we mostly got packed and left during a break in the rain...

Our pack was well represented with darn near 100 people on hand including parents and siblings.

Friday night was chaotic as families from Packs all over north Georgia tried to get to camp.

Saturday was a blast. There was a big hike, lots of activities (including the ever popular archery and BB gun ranges). The evening was topped off by a really great meal around the fire, followed by some INTENSE snipe hunting led by Mr. Carl Van Nus. Despite DNR reports that the snipe population was high, not a single snipe was caught. Discussions with experts show that the boys were probably moving too fast and not stepping high enough.

Several of the boys were concerned that they might have a run-in with the dreaded beaver-shark, but fortunately there were no incidents.

A fun safe time was had by all. Well, the Assistant Cubmaster, Jeff Ammons (who also maintains the website...) more or less set his hand on fire over a propane stove. That was really the only injury. Well, except for the Cubmaster, Jose Rodriguez who was injured in a freak dunking booth accident. Jose was not familiar with the old show-biz phrase, "Break a leg". So he did. NOW he knows it just means good luck...
