2004 Fall Family Camping Trip

It's time to start planning for this year's trip!

Click to see our page dedicated to last year's Fall Family Camping trip.

If you've never been camping before or if you are missing some of the equipment you might need, PLEASE call or email one of the leaders. We will ALL be glad to help you out.

Remember this is not backpacking. No freeze dried, ultra-lightweight, ultra-expensive equipment needed! This is car camping. You will see lots of propane and cast iron! You can DRIVE up to the campsite and unload.

IMPORTANT: It will be much easier to get your car in and out if you get there early. Those of us who came late Friday night last year had trouble getting in and out. In my case I had to bring my car up Saturday morning. If you can, it would be a great idea to pack enough for the night in an easily carried package. I plan to pack enough for the night in our backpacks so that we can carry it up in one trip if we are late, then bring up the heavy stuff on Saturday morning. It is probably going to be between a quarter to a half mile from the parking area to our campsite. We may not know which campsite we'll have until we get there. The more people who sign up to so, the better campsite we'll get!

The reason for confusion with the car unloading comes from the fact that only one or two cars can go up to each campsite at the same time. If they let more people go in, the little road would get hopelessly jammed. THEN there would be a real mess. Please be patient and wait your turn. When you sign in at the main building, you will sign up for a car pass.

PLEASE, please remember to return the car pass to the folks at the main building after you park your car! Last year people were forgetting, and so they never knew when to send the next car up!

What will you need? Well here's the list printed on the flyer from the Apalachee District:

  • Tent
  • Sleeping bag or blankets
  • Insect repellent
  • Extra shoes and clothing
  • Toiletries
  • Raincoat or poncho (it is called Rainey Mountain...)
  • Flashlight (and extra batteries)
  • Food & drinks (more on this in a bit)
  • Cooking and eating utensils
  • Plates and cups
  • Most importantly YOUR SCOUT SPIRIT
